DIRECTING PORTFOLIO

I shepherd ideas and people together into one unified theatrical experience.

I create theatre that is invigorating, intimate, and immersive.

I believe that every rehearsal room needs to be a supportive environment that is focused and productive.

I strive to work with true collaborators and masters in their given expertise

I dedicate my life to expanding my craft through many different facets of theatre education.

I am and will continue to be a self-sustaining artist.

"...His teaching style seamlessly blended theoretical concepts with practical applications, keeping every class session engaging and enlightening. The pacing of the course was perfect, allowing for in-depth exploration of complex topics without feeling rushed. What truly stood out were the assignments – they were not only thought-provoking but also incredibly fun. His passion for theatre and dedication to his students were palpable in every interaction. I came away from this course...with a renewed enthusiasm for the art form."
"Joel Shura is one of the most exciting teachers I have ever had. He has an innate ability to make all of his students feel engaged and apart of the learning experience. I don't really feel like I am in a lecture type class because I have a blast every single day. He always checks in and never makes me feel dumb. He also challenges us in a very productive way both inside and outside of class. Honestly a 10/10 experience. A 10/10 teacher. He should keep striving to do what he does best every single day."
"Joel Shura has taught me the most out of all my experiences in my educational career. He has such an amazing approach to class, making me, and I believe my peers as well excited about the course content. All the projects we do and plays we read are effective and very intentional for what we are learning. He is extremely intelligent and listens to us very well, and gives great answers to our questions and good feedback from presentations. Joel has energy everyday, no matter how he is feeling, and I feel encouraged to match him, and his class is always one I look forward to each day."
